Private Treaty Sales Check-Off
Investment Information and Form
Have You Sold Cattle on the Farm?
If so, be sure you paid
the $1.50 check-off. IT'S THE LAW--No One is Exempt!!!
The Beef Check-Off goes into effect every time cattle are sold. This
includes purebred sales and private treaty sales on the farm. The law
requires that you must collect the national, plus the 50 cents state
check-off money during your sale. The 50 cents state check-off is now a
Mandatory Collection as a result of Act 298 passed in the Louisiana
legislature, but producers may request a refund of this amount only by a
written request to the Louisiana Beef Industry Council.
The seller is also responsible under the law. The seller may collect and
remit the $1.50 per head in a private treaty transaction. This is the
best way to handle purebred sales. To avoid late payment charge, money
must be remitted by the 15th of the month following the sale. Penalties
up to $5,000 per transaction applies to violators. All sales
transactions are subject to audit to insure compliance with the
check-off law.
Remember, both the buyer and seller are responsible to have the $1.50
Beef Check-Off collected and remitted to the
Louisiana Beef Industry Council.
